Candace Chapman was named anchor and managing editor at WBNG in 2016. She previously served in positions as anchor and news director and anchor and executive producer.
Candace was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. She achieved a bachelor’s degree in journalism at the University of Missouri, Columbia. While there, Candace worked for university owned KOMU-TV as a reporter and weekend anchor. After graduation her career led her to KSWO-TV in Lawton, Oklahoma where she reported on military, medical and education issues. She was promoted to morning anchor and producer. Candace joined WBNG-TV in Binghamton, New York in 1994. She began as anchor of the morning and noon newscasts and was eventually promoted to evening anchor. In 2004, Candace became executive producer, overseeing day to day news coverage. During her time at WBNG Candace has also produced and anchored special news coverage live on location.
Candace has won both individual and staff awards. In 2007, the New York Associated Press honored Action News with the Grand Prize. The station won 8 awards including first place for best newscast, and also best spot and continuing news coverage for the June Flood of 2006. Other awards include New York Broadcasters Association best news coverage in 1999 and an individual special mention from the Oklahoma Broadcasters Association for best spot news reporting. In 2015 the New York State Broadcaster’s Association honored Action News with three first place awards for Best Newscast, Best Spot News and Best Sportscast.
Candace has many interests. She frequently travels in the US and abroad. Her travels have also allowed her to practice her photography skills. Candace is an avid reader of fiction and non fiction. She enjoys cooking, entertaining, and getting outdoors for walks, hiking, skiing and boating.
