Matt Porter joined Action News in February 2012. He started as a weekend reporter before joining the Action News team full-time as a multi-media journalist in August 2012.
Since coming to Binghamton, Matt has won two New York State Broadcasters Association awards for his reporting at WBNG. He’s also won awards for investigative reporting in Boston, and reporting in Syracuse, New York.
Before coming to Binghamton, Matt worked as a freelance journalist for NPR, the New England Center for Investigative Reporting, and other online news outlets.
He’s covered investigative stories from Boston, the presidential primaries in New Hampshire, and local news across the northeast. Matt spent one year as a Fulbright Fellow in Turkey where he was able to report stories from abroad.
He has a master’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. He’s also a graduate of Boston College where he interned at two local television stations: WGBH Boston, one of the nation’s oldest public television stations, and WBZ-4, Boston’s CBS-affiliate.
Now, Matt is thankful for the opportunity to come to Binghamton. He especially loves the rolling hills and natural beauty of the Twin Tiers. He’s looking forward to meeting all the diverse groups of people that make up this great area.
Matt is an avid amateur photographer, runner, and bowler. So don’t be surprised if you see him snapping shots on the trail, running along the river, or lighting it up in the lanes.
Lastly, Matt is committed to providing Binghamton and the Southern Tier with accurate, independent, and accountable reporting.
