State Police say drugs could be involved in a severe beating and robbery.

41 year old Mark Wiley, was found severely beaten early Monday at an Econo Lodge in the Town of Dickinson.

Wiley lives in Albany county, but is originally from Broome County.

Troopers believe he was visiting relatives.

When he returned to his room, a group of people attacked and robbed him.

"We executed a concert search on the room and there was a small amount of drugs obtained. No large quantities," says George Goodall of New York State Police.

"In your opinion were drugs a factor in this case?" asks reporter.

"They're an element of it, I wouldn't call it a motive," says Goodall.

State police say his injuries were life threatening.

Wiley is recovering at Wilson Hospital.

State Police charged 4 people with robbery.

35 year old Nicole Ballard of Endicott, 17 year old Dupray Jordan, 30 year olds Amy Kelley and Jeffrey Stanley, all from Binghamton.

State police say Wiley knew both of the women.
