A family plans funeral services for a soldier who died in a car crash while home on leave from Iraq.

20 year old Phillip Diaferio was from Endicott.

He was driving the car that went off the road and hit a tree on Nanticoke Drive, in the Town of Union, early Saturday morning.

Broome Sheriff's investigators say speed played a role.

Diaferio was with two friends, also graduates of Union Endicott High School.

Both men were also injured.

Calling hours for Diaferio are Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Allen Memorial Home in Endicott.

The funeral mass is at 10:00 am Wednesday at St Anthony of Padua Church.
