A former Conklin Court Clerk is arrested for stealing more than 20-thousand dollars from the Court.

34-year old Katie Paugh of Binghamton is charged with Grand Larceny.

State Police say she embezzled about 24-thousand dollars.

The investigation began last April after a discrepancy in the Court's bank records.

State police say someone also tried to delete or destroy numerous court records associated with the money.

In a written statement, Conklin supervisor Debbie Preston said she nor the Town Board can comment as this is an ongoing criminal matter.

Preston does say she would like the the Town Government to have more fiscal oversight of the court.

By state law, the Court is overseen by the Town Justice and the State.

And acts independently from the Town.

Preston has written to state lawmakers in an effort to change that.
