At approximately 4:30 a.m., SUNY Delhi University Police responded to the report of an assault outside Russell Hall, a campus residence hall. Upon arrival, police discovered a student suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was transported to O’Connor Hospital in Delhi and then transferred to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown where he remains a patient.
SUNY Delhi University Police, New York State Police, Delaware County Sheriff’s Department and Village of Delhi Police are conducting an intensive investigation of the incident. It appears that the student's injuries were the result of a fight with another individual and that the incident does not present an imminent threat to other students.
The investigation is continuing. SUNY Delhi students were notified via email Sunday morning that the incident had occurred. Notices have also been placed around the campus, and students are being asked to call University Police at 607-746-4700 if they have any information. Student life and counseling staff have been mobilized to assist students who have questions and to provide support.
