Broome County Sheriffs say an Endicott man is responsible for setting fire in a local motel room, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

It happened back on April 30Th here at the Super 8 Motel on Old Front Street in the Town of Chenango.

Broome County Sheriffs say 50 year old Steven Tenney started a fire in a trash can in a room.

The fire spread into the bathroom where it caused a sprinkler to go off, which automatically called the Chenango Fire Department.

Deputies estimate the damage to the motel to be around 50 thousand dollars.

During the investigation, authorities also discovered crack cocaine and hydrocodone.

Tenney was charged with arson and reckless endangerment.
When police arrested Tenney Tuesday, he was attempting to flush some cocaine down a toilet.

He's now also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence.

Tenney was arraigned in Town of Dickinson Court and sent to the Broome County Jail without bail.
