If you park in a downtown parking garage on the weekends, you might have to start shelling out a few bucks.

It's currently free to park in the State and Collier Streets garages at night.

But soon, there may be a 2-dollar fee after 9:30 on Thursday nights.

And after 8 on Friday and Saturday nights.

Binghamton City Council voted unanimously to approve the fee.

The city would hire 2 parking lot attendants.

Council member Bob Weslar says this will help reduce vandalism and increase security at night.

"We're going to have staff in the parking lot, looking, walking around the parking lot, helping to keep it the way it needs to be. So, we're going to be maintaining our parking garages in a better way," said councilman Bob Weslar.

The fee still needs approval from Mayor Ryan.

If he signs off on it, it could go into effect June 5th.
