July 22, 2010 Updated May 21, 2008 at 5:41 PM EST

Golfers hit the greens to support our soldiers serving overseas.

"Tournament for the Troops" was held here at Endwell Greens in the Town of Union.

Money raised will benefit the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division based at Fort Drum.

The tournament surpassed the goal of $20,000 and reached $23,000

The money will help purchase clothing for the soldiers when they return home.

It will also be donated to a scholarship fund.

"We will continue to support the troops as long as they're deployed, as long as we're at conflict. I would see this being the first annual.," said Ric Morrow of BAE Systems.

Golfers sought pledges to raise the donations for Tournament For The Troops.

It's sponsored by BAE Systems, George Industries and several other local companies.
