The New York State Health Department makes it easier for you to see how local hospitals perform when it comes to surgery and other medical treatments.

It launched a new website: hospitals.nyhealth.gov.

The website provides a list of all the hospitals in the state, along with a detailed breakdown of how each handles congestive heart failure, pneumonia, heart attacks and surgical infection prevention.

It also breaks down how many beds are available at each hospital, like Binghamton General and Wilson Hospitals, run by United Health Services.

"It provides information on what types of services and the volume of services that are normally done at a hospital and that helps one in making those decisions as well," said Roberta Rivero of UHS.

UHS says it's a good tool to get patients and doctors talking about the best places for patients to get care.
