It has NASA's attention as it looks for ways to travel to further into space.
Congressman Maurice Hinchey presented a federal grant of 2 million dollars and toured the lab.
BU will use the money to help develop smaller, low cost space exploration equipment like solar energy collectors or suit sensors for astronauts.
"NASA is interested in micro-technology packaging obviously because the smaller and the lighter you can make something, the greater ability it has to travel great distances through space," says Hinchey.
Hinchey said BU's facility a national leader in micro-electronics research.
He says federal funding helps attract more state and private investment.
