Mayor Matt Ryan introduced Luke Day to dozens of city workers.

The announcement was made at the the public works garage in Binghamton.

Day has more than 20 years experience as a plumber and pipefitter.

He's worked on projects at Binghamton University and Lockheed Martin.

Day says the department of public works does more than keep the streets clean.

"It's about continuing to build the city we want to live in. The city we want to raise our children in. The city we call home," says Day.

During the past few weeks, Mayor Ryan says Day has been riding along with city workers.

Day will earn a yearly salary of almost $52,000 starting this Saturday.
