New York State Electric and Gas says about 5,000 customers lost power at about 9:30 Tuesday night.

NYSEG says a raccoon got into the Northside Substation on Glenwood Road.

It crawled across parts of the control system, knocking out power to several areas, including Upper Front Street, Airport Road, around Broome Community College and parts of Chenango Bridge.

NYSEG says power was restored to all customers by 10:30.
