How would you like to have a new home built.

Then, have the builder, pay the first year of your mortgage?

That's exactly what happened to a Town of Union Family, which won a special contest today.

Action News Reporter Caitlin Nuclo was there, for the big surprise.

When the Cosilmon's stopped by to check on their new home in Johnson city, they got the surprise of their lives.

"We came up and we saw this commotion and I'm thinking what the heck is going on," said Phylis Cosilmon.

"I just started crying and my heart was racing and I had this thing in my stomach. We're so excited," she said.

The Cosilmon's will live mortgage free for a year in their new home.

Footing the bill, is the company that's building their dream house on Deyo Hill Road: Barden Homes.

The company recently held a special contest.

Asking it's customers why they deserved to live mortgage free for a year.

"They are great houses and we needed a bigger one because my daughter is in a wheelchair most of the time," said Cosilmon.

Barden Homes, is glad to help.

It built the family's first home in the Town of Union 25 years ago.

"We're very excited that they won this and that we can be a big part of their life," said Eric Barden of Barden Homes.

The Cosilmons liked their old Barden home so much that when they outgrew it, they decided to build a brand new one.

"We're putting in a roll in shower special for a wheelchair and more handicap accessible things and also a nice kitchen, a bigger kitchen so she can get around. I just can't wait. And now I really can't wait," said Cosilman.

The Cosilman's had to use some retirement funds to build their new house.

Now, without the worry of paying their mortgage for a year, they can spend some money on the finer things...

"We''We've been trying not to spend a lot of money because it costs a lot to build but now I can buy the lamp I want," said Cosilmon.

The Cosilman's hope to move into their new home in time for Thanksgiving.
