July 22, 2010 Updated Sep 4, 2008 at 4:25 PM EDT

A car crash delays the start of a murder trial in Chenango County.

Peter Wlasiuk is being tried a second time for allegedly murdering his wife.

His re-trial was set to begin today.

But his defense attorney asked to delay opening arguments, after 4 of Wlasiuk's family members were involved in a car crash Wednesday.

Wlasiuk was found guilty in 2002.

The Chenango County District Attorney claims he suffocated his wife, Patricia, at their home in Oxford.

Then staged a truck accident in Guilford Lake off Route 35.

Opening arguments in the trial are now set to begin Tuesday morning.

Wlasiuk's father, three daughters, and the driver of another vehicle were taken to the hospital Wednesday.

The crash happened around 4 PM at the intersection of State highway 8 and Shumway Road in the Town of Guilford.

The Chenango County Sheriff's offices says, 20 year old Edward Arenth of Greene was trying to make a left hand turn when he was struck by a Dodge Mini-van operated by Thomas Wlasiuk.

Arenth was airlifted to Wilson Hospital with injuries to his hip and lower abdomen.

He has since been released.

Wlasiuk and his 3 granddaughters were taken to Chenengo memorial hospital with non- life threatening injuries.

Arenth has ticketed with failure to yield the right of way.
