A tractor trailer accident ties up busy traffic and sends debris into the Chenango River.

It happened today at the merger of 81 South and Route 17 East.

It's in the area you might know as "Kamikaze Curve".

The section was closed for a while today, halting busy traffic.

It's now down to one lane, so you may have some delays in that area.

Binghamton Police say it happened when Thomas McCarthy of Syracuse lost control of his 18 wheeler.

They say McCarthy's load shifted weight when he was merging on to Route 17 from 81 South.

It caused the tractor trailer to crash into a guard rail and then flip on it's side.

The truck was carrying aluminum and a 236-foot roll of it spilled from the truck into the Chenango River.

No other cars were involved in the accident.

McCarthy and his passenger were taken to Wilson Hospital and treated for minor injuries.
