From the Associated Press:
IBM is laying off workers at plants across
the United States this week, but the numbers are uncertain.
Doug Shelton, a spokesman at IBM's Armonk, NY headquarters,
acknowledged that the company is cutting jobs but wouldn't say how
many or from which divisions.
IBM has had a long-standing policy of not immediately disclosing those details.
Lee Conrad of Alliance at IBM says up to 800 workers from IBM's Systems Technology Group lost their jobs at plants in East Fishkill and Burlington, Vt., this week.
The labor group also reports cuts this week at Rochester, Minn.;
Tucson, Ariz.; and Research Triangle Park, N.C.
By it's count, roughly 2,800 IBM workers lost their jobs
last week, mostly in the software and distribution divisions.
