With golf spikes on and clubs in hand,. Bruce Boyea can relax with friends after making sure everything is in place for the All-Star benefit golf tournament.
It's just one way Boyea and his company, Security Mutual give back to the community.
Thursday's proceeds benefit the Broome County Urban League.
"I'm very glad to know him and very thankful for his dedication to our organization I think he's very deserving," says Kendrea Griffith of B.C. Urban League.
"You need someone who is in charge, out front, the flag bearer to make these kinds of things happen, and Bruce is one of those persons," says James Pogue of B.C. Urban League.
After June's flooding, Boyea and Security Mutual saw a great need for help in the community.
In July Boyea presented checks to local organizations for help with flood relief.
Friday night Security Mutual is hosting a benefit concert at the Forum.
"He's made a lot of good friends in the community who he rallies around him when he does an event, whether it's golf tournament, flood relief, anything he does in the community he does right from his heart," says friend Dave Pessagno.
The award caught him by surprise.
"You've stunned me today, thank you very much," says Boyea.
But he doesn't like to take credit for all of his efforts.
He credits his workers for their time and dedication, and says it's the company's duty to help in the community.
"It's a responsibility to give back to the community that gives so much. This is a great area to live in, so it's easy to give back when you have a community like this," says Boyea.
And for his unselfish and tireless work, Bruce Boyea is a Jefferson Award winner.
