State police say Phillips surrendered tonight just over the Pennsylvania state line.

Phillips escaped from the Erie County jail in April.

He's wanted for shooting a state trooper in Chemung County in June.

And, in August, he's believed to have shot troopers Joseph Longobardo and Donald Baker.

Longobardo died Sunday.

Baker has been in critical condition since the shooting.

Phillips gave himself up to police at about 8 p-m, walking out of a cornfield with his hands up.

It ended a frantic day of searching that started at 2 am in Pennsylvania, after a sighting of Phillips by a state trooper.

Police spent the day narrowing the area they believed Phillips was hiding in.

On Thursday, Phillips made the FBI's 10 most wanted list.

He's expected to return to New York to face charges.
