Civic Association Tragedy

14 people are dead after a shooting rampage inside the American Civic Association in Binghamton.Binghamton Police believe the lone gunmen is among the dead.

Police received a 911 call from a receptionist inside the building at 131 Front Street around 10:30 this morning.

The woman said a man shot her, and another receptionist.

Then, he went into classrooms at the Civic Center and continued shooting with a handgun.

A group of people ran to the basement to hide until police secured the building.

Police began locking down surrounding neighborhoods most of the day.

The situation ended around 2:30 this afternoon.

Two men were seen brought out by police in handcuffs, but Police say they are not suspects in the shooting.

Police also would not confirm the identity of the suspected gunman, but the Associated Press is reporting the name as 42-year-old Jiverly Voong of Johnson City, N.Y.

Again, at this time 14 are confirmed dead.

One of which is the gunman, which reports say was by a self inflicted gunshot wound.

4 were injured, three taken to Wilson Hospital, 1 to Lourdes.

Their conditions are all listed as critical.

Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski says Police removed 37 people from the Civic Center safely.

26 of them hid in a boiler room in the basement, where they stayed until Police assured them it was all right to come out.
