About 70 people are evacuated from a Binghamton church after part of a ceiling collapses.

The Binghamton Fire Department responded to Saint John's Church on Vestal Avenue around 7 o'clock this evening.

A musical performance was about to start in the basement when a significant amount of debris fell on the stage.

"We heard a major crash. Everybody thought it was part of the scenery maybe collapsed, and it was the ceiling that actually fell through the drop ceiling and crashed right in front of the stage," said Richard Murphy.

"Stage just crashed down. Two guys just kind of blew out of that area. One guy landed on the floor, the other guy I caught," said Bill Collins

Two people were treated for minor injuries.

The Binghamton Fire Department does not know what caused the crash, but says the structure is stable.

Saint John's will have mass as scheduled Sunday morning.
