Subject Arrested For Causing Explosion at Job Corp

On June 9, 2009, The New York State Police arrested JASKARM S. KANG, age 18, of 136th Street, Flushing, NY, for Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree and Criminal Mischief 4th Degree. Kang was arrested following the investigation of an explosion that occurred at approximately 10:20 am this date at Job Corp, 247 West Street Oneonta, NY. Investigation revealed Kang, while in welding class, filled a garbage bag with acetylene gas and then set it on fire, causing an explosion. The explosion caused damage to the shop portion of the classroom. As a result of the explosion, Kang sustained injuries to his arms and face. Kang was treated at A.O. Fox hospital, Oneonta, N.Y. and released. Following his release, Kang was charged as indicated and arraigned in the Town of Oneonta Court and remanded to the Otsego County Jail in lieu of $1,000.00 bail. The New York State Police were assisted in this investigation by the Oneonta Fire Department, New York State Fire Investigators, ATF, FBI, Joint Terrorism Task Force, New York State Department of Labor, New York State Office of General Services and the Oneonta Constable.
