Johnson City Police search for two suspects after an officer is stabbed.

It happened around 8 p.m. Saturday night.

Police say Patrolman Matthew Romano approached a suspicious car in the Calvary Cemetery on Harry L. Drive.

Police say that's when two suspects jumped out and assaulted Romano, stabbing him twice in the abdomen.

Romano was taken to Wilson Hospital where he's in stable condition.

Initial police radio reports said shots were fired, but police won't say if Romano fired at the suspects.

Police are searching for two suspects.

One suspect is a dark-skinned black male, 6 feet tall, medium build, in his 20's, and hair with dread locks.

There's no description of the second suspect.

They were driving a white Acura with no plates.

And Johnson City police say they're anxious to arrest the suspects.

"We think that anybody who's willing to attempt or to assault an officer to such a degree is a very serious threat," said Lt. David Smith of the Johnson City Police Department.
