Bad weather did not rain on the last day of the Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally.
Vendors were grilling up spiedies and people were throwing back the sandwiches.
Action News Reporter Julianne Sweeney shows us how businesses fared in some wet weather.
"If you live in Binghamton, I think you're used to the rain." said Sam Lupo, Jr. of Sam A. Lupo & Sons, Inc.
The bad weather did not stop thousands from turning out to toast the spiedie.
It's the final day of the 25th annual Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally at Otsiningo Park.
"People are still in the park...our tent is full, people are sitting underneath it." said Lupo.
Rain forced organizers to cancel a morning balloon launch...
Push back the Spiedie Cook Off a few hours...
And postpone some other activities.
"You do what you can, when you have weather like this...you make some adjustments." said Spiedie Fest Coordinator Dave Pessagno.
Vendors are equipped for the weather.
Those grilling up spiedies just grabbed umbrellas for cover.
"We're protecting our food, we're protecting our fryers because you don't want to the oil and grease to mix." said Lupo.
Many vendors are afraid they'll face lower sales Sunday.
But, they're not letting it ruin the weekend.
They say any loss will be off set by Saturday sales.
They served the more than 50-thousand people who packed the park Saturday.
"Record crowds, it was beautiful here. The balloons all went out and it was a gorgeous day." said Spiedie Cook Off Coordinator Karen Mitrowitz.
"Whenever you do events like these...you just gotta roll with the punches." said Rob Salamida of Rob Salamida & Company
Whether it's rain or shine...
People will come out for the spiedie.
A balloon launch is scheduled for 6:30 Sunday evening, weather permitting.
Spiedie Fest closes at 8:30.
