Two Vestal police officers are being hailed as heroes tonight.

A local woman says Sergeant Ben Hettinger and officer Jeff White helped save her daughter's life Tuesday.

Krista Billings of Binghamton was shopping Tuesday night at this Wal-Mart in Vestal.

Her young daughter had a high fever and started seizing.

Billings called 9-1-1.

She was told told to pull over and wait for assistance in the Olums parking lot.

While waiting, she saw two police officers who rushed the girl to the hospital, rather than waiting for the ambulance.

"She came up behind us in the vehicle screaming. She got outta the car with the baby in her hands, and the baby didn't look good. So we immediately put her in the back of my car and took her to Wilson Hospital," says Sgt. Ben Hettinger, Vestal Police.

"Well it's just one of those cases where I guess this time were at the right place at the right time," says Officer Jeff White, Vestal Police.

Billings says her daughter is doing much better now, thanks to the heroism of the two officers that night.
