People in the Maine-Endwell school district vote today on a proposed land purchase.
The district wants to buy about an acre of land next to the high school to put in an additional parking lot. Superintendent Joseph Stoner says it is a safety issue. Students who drive have been parking in surrounding neighborhoods and crossing Farm to Market Road during busy times of day.
If voters approve the proposal, the average property-owner would pay an extra 84 cents per year for 15 years.
Polls are open from Noon to 9:00 pm today at Maine-Endwell Middle School and Maine Memorial Elementary.
The district is also offering tours of the new addition at the middle school tonight.
From 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, you can tour the new classrooms added as part of the district's capital project approved in 2007.
Follow the voting signs to enter the building at the west end.
