At a meeting Wednesday night at the Chenango Valley High School, more than 50 people showed up with suggestions.

The federal government closed the Depot in 2005, which stockpiled defense materials.

It now plans to sell the property.

Ideas for the 129 acres included housing for senior citizens and a park area.

Or leaving it open, and free of any new industry that could bring noise or pollution.

"Part of the problem is the Depot, has been Singer Link, has been the metal finishing. Those are the reasons we don't want any type of industry in our community. They've done enough hazardous waste in this community," says Keith Zulko of the Town of Fenton.

The Chenango Valley School district is looking to acquire about 30 acres of that land.

The district would use it for athletic fields and walking trails.
