Opponents of a power line proposal meet in Norwich.

Congressman Michael Arcuri organized this public hearing at the Norwich City Firehouse.

NYRI is proposing a high voltage power line to run through Upstate.

It's gained a lot of opposition from lawmakers and area residents.

The Department of Energy will hold two hearings on the plan, one in Rochester and one in New York City.

But Arcuri says the meetings are too far away.

That's why he's holding discussions here in his district.

"Rather than inconveniance the Department of Energy. They want to inconvenience all the people who already at risk of having powerlines run through their back yard. So to me it's just unacceptable," Arcuri said.

Arcuri says if the Department of Energy approves the NYRI project, he will attempt to cut off federal funding for the project.
