Monday night, the Broome Republican Committee held it's petition night at the Vestal American Legion.

Each seat, from board trustee, to state supreme court judge requires a certain number of signatures for a candidate to get on the ballot.

Committee members like Gordon Allen, picked up petitions they'll be walking door to door.

"If we don't get enough petitions signed for a candidate, Jesus Christ could be running and if he doesn't get the number of petitions signed that he needs he can't be on the ticket no matter how good how qualified you are," says Allen.

The Board of Elections must receive the required number of signatures by July 18th.

Broome Democrats will pick up petitions tomorrow at headquarters in Binghamton.
