Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) - The use of weapons during robberies is on the rise in Binghamton.
Detectives say in 2008, there were 34 robberies in the city of Binghamton.
That number dropped by 14 in 2009.
Binghamton Detectives say weapons weren't commonly used in 2008, but they saw a significant increase in armed robberies in 2009.
Binghamton Detectives Captain Alex Minor says this trend is causing concern for the safety of his team.
"We're constantly seeing an increase in the use of weapons, both in the home invasion type robberies, the commercial robberies... It's just part of the business and it's dangerous out there, and we're constantly aware that there's a good chance we're going to find weapons," said Captain Minor.
Minor adds that while the use of weapons has risen, the success rate of solving robberies in Binghamton is well above the national average.
