A large bear kept summer school kids from going home.

Jennie F Snapp in Endicott was just about to release kids from the morning session when a bear was sighted just after noon.

The school was locked down.

The Union Endicott School district is using buses to take children who walk home.

Parents can also pick their children up at the school.

A UE spokesperson says the bear is lying in an area of bushes near the tennis courts on the southeast corner.

Police have the bear surrounded.

They are waiting for tranquilizers to arrive so the animal can be safely removed.
