Empire State Development Upstate Chairman Daniel Gundersen today announced that National Pipe and Plastics, one of the largest PVC pipe producers in North America, will invest $3 million in Broome County. National Pipe and Plastic will retain 164 existing jobs and has pledged to create 50 new jobs. The company will invest in an adjacent property, as well as purchase new machinery and equipment, adding three new pipe product lines.
“This investment is a great example of the wide variety of companies that Broome County and the Southern Tier can support,” Chairman Gundersen said. “We are pleased that a local company has chosen to stay here and grow and tap into our qualified workforce.”
“National Pipe & Plastics is proud to be a part of Vestal, Greater Binghamton, Broome County and Upstate New York. This is an area that needs revitalization. It is also home to our employees,” state Dave Culbertson, president, National Pipe & Plastics, Inc. “They have inspired the success from which we are now able to generate new growth opportunities for the families surrounding us. Our company motto is “Do the right thing” and in this case it means working with our neighbors to develop our community.”
In recognition of its investment in New York, Empire State Development and National Pipe and Plastics, Inc. have agreed to a series of project milestones, through which the company will be eligible to apply for up to a $125,000 Capital grant for a portion of machinery and equipment costs. Under the agreement, National Pipe and Plastics, Inc. will receive the full amount upon reaching project targets set by Empire State Development.
“Creating a diverse job base is critical to the future success of the Southern Tier,” said Senator Tom Libous (R-C-I, Binghamton). “National Pipe and Plastic’s growth will certainly help us continue to accomplish this goal and show that the Southern Tier is a great place to locate and grow a business.”
“This is great news for our local economy,” said Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo (D-Endwell). “I really appreciate National Pipe & Plastic’s continued commitment to our community and Empire State Development’s efforts to help local businesses grow.”
“This is exciting news for Greater Binghamton,” said Barbara J. Fiala, Broome County Executive. “National Pipe and Plastic is one of our finest and most successful local companies and we are thrilled they are making a commitment to not only stay but to expand.”
