Runners young and old laced up their sneakers this morning for the 12th annual Lee Barta Memorial Run.
Hundreds of people showed up to Binghamton's Recreation Park for the event.
It honors the life of fallen police officer Lee Barta.
Barta, a former Binghamton Police Officer, was killed in 1995 while trying to arrest a suspect.
This high school runner says it's a great cause to support.
"It means a lot cause you are trying to give back to the people who lost a dear friend or family member," said Justin Martinez of Binghamton.
Many firefighters and police officers took part in the 5K run.
The race also featured runners from Binghamton University, and Johnson City and Binghamton High Schools.
Proceeds from the run help fund two scholarships for high school students interested in a law enforcement career.
