Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) City planners are hoping to bring more people to the West Side of Binghamton.
The City Planning committee met with the West Side Neighborhood Project Tuesday to discuss housing and home ownership issues.
The group wants to create a new zoning area focused on student housing called the "Tree Street District."
It would stretches from Leroy street North to Main Street, and from Chestnut Street east to Oak street.
They hope this district would allow more than 2 unrelated people to live in a house at the same time.
"I think all landlords are going to be happy that they can have some peace of mind that they can continue to operate their businesses and they can rent to groups of people within reason without having this shadow over their heads," said Tobey Kellam, Co-Chair of the West Side Neighborhood Project.
The Planning Committee hopes to create draft legislation by late April.
