Greene, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A Greene man honors the memory of his wife, by visiting her native homeland.

Hong Xiu Marsland only lived in the United States for a few months before she was killed.

Her husband, David, says the last year has been difficult.

As a part of his healing process, Marsland visited Xiu's family in Guilin, China.

He feels the journey brought him closer to Xiu.

"To walk through the house where she grew up, out into the yard where she used to chase chickens with a stick. Looking up into the hills where she gazed as a child, dreaming about the big world, where she was going to go, what she was going to do, it was one of the most compelling experiences of my life," says Marsland.

Marsland calls Xiu an amazing woman.

And says the best way to keep her memory alive is for everyone to love each other a little bit more everyday.
