Oh my aching back.

It's a phrase uttered by millions of Americans everyday including Jennifer Canali of Elmira.

"I had loss of mobility in my neck and shooting pain down my left arm, loss of felling and tingly," says Canali.

Canali hoped surgery to remove a bad disc and fuse the bones in her neck would end the pain.

But the surgery was not successful.

"I sit at a computer all the time typing. I don't have the freedom and flexibility to walk around. The more fusions you have, the more stress on the discs," says Canali.

About to give it another try, Canali got a call from Southern NY Neurosurgical Group.

It's the first in the region to offer a new spinal surgery just approved by the FDA.

The Prestige Artificial Cervical Disc is implanted to replace the bad disc.

"The newer technology is made of metal but what it will allow will be, it can still move in every direction," says Dr. Saeed Bajwa of Southern NY Neurosurgical Group.

The surgery takes just two hours.

Patients like Canali recover faster, and move without pain.

24 hours later, she's is out of bed and feeling great

"Its given me a better quality of life," says Canali.

This was the first successful procedure in the Northeast United States.

Southern NY Neurological Group P.C. is one of only 20 practices in the country to perform this surgery.

It will also serve as a training center.
