Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) People gather in Binghamton Tuesday night to remember victims of violent crime.
The Crime Victims Assistance Center held its annual tribute to victims at Cheri Lindsey Park.
It's also an opportunity for family and friends of crime victims to come together and support each other.
A bagpiper opened the tribute as members of the community spoke and read poems.
"We want to kind of pay tribute to those people who have been through something horrific and survived and moved forward in their life. Not that that was an easy task, we just want to recognize their strength and the strength for their family and friends," said Raini Baudendistel.
White balloons were released as a symbol of hope.
More than 50 people attended.
