Drowning Victim Found

The body of Mr Anthony Blanchard age 40, of Sidney, NY, was recovered this morning at 8:36 A.M. in the Susquehanna River by State Police divers in approximately twelve feet of water, near a trestle adjacent to the intersection of State Route 7 and Valley View Road in the Town of Unadilla, Otsego County, New York.

Otsego County Coroner James MaGee responded to the scene and an autopsy was scheduled at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, NY.
Divers recovered the body in about 12 feet of water near State Route 7 and Valley View Road.

State Police say around 6:30 pm Monday, Blanchard and three of his friends were walking along the Susquehanna River.

One person slipped into deeper water.

Blanchard tried to assist that person but got into deeper water too.

Witnesses say he slipped under and did not resurface.
