5 Injured in Scaffolding Collapse

Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Scaffolding collapsed at Binghamton University in Vestal just before 12:30 Wednesday afternoon.

5 people were injured.

It was part of the East Campus Housing project on the BU campus at what will be the Delaware Hall Residential Community.

The scaffolding stretches across the entire building, about four stories off the ground.

The middle part of the scaffolding collapsed.

It's operated by LeChase Construction Services.

It's local office is on Frederick Street in Binghamton.

Six ambulances were called to the scene.

Wilson Hospital in Johnson City has 4 patients. It could only release information on two patients. One was critical and the other stable.

Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton had one patient in stable.

The Vestal Fire Department and Binghamton University Police both reponded to the scene.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is headed to the project site to investigate the cause of the collapse.

The construction site was shut down at 2:00 pm.
