Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Wilson Hospital reports 1 person in serious condition Thursday and 1 person was treated and released.
The hospital in Johnson City has 2 other patients from Wednesday's scaffolding collapse who did not wish to have their conditions reported.
In the video report from Wednesday evening, an emergency responder and a person on campus describe the scene before and after the scaffold collapse at Binghamton University in Vestal.
The 9-1-1 call came in at 12:28 this afternoon
University Police and Vestal Fire rushed to the scene where a construction scaffold carrying workers came crashing down from at least four stories high.
The Vestal Fire Department worked quickly to get everyone out of danger
" Yeah the workers were on the ground next to the building. We assisted, we just got them out of there. We put them on backboard and got them up out of the area," said Vestal Fire Chief Chuck Paffie.
Five people were taken to local hospitals.
Four to Wilson Hospital, and one to Lourdes.
It is unclear at this point how or why the scaffold collapsed.
Some people who passed by the site earlier wondered how safe it was.
"They have it overloaded. It was obvious. We saw it this morning when we drove by it has too many people on it too much lumber and material," said BU employee John Slavik.
This was a construction project that was actually moving quite quickly but everything has come to a complete halt as state investigators are looking into why the scaffold collapsed.
The building is supposed to be the third section of the East Campus Housing Project
The University says it should be completed by 2011.
University Police and Environmental Health and Safety have shut down the site until further notice..
