Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Calling all those with a green thumb.
The City of Binghamton is inviting you to participate in its first design your own park competition.
It will enable people to transform vacant lots like this one on Lisle Avenue into vibrant recreational spaces.
The city believes it will also improve the quality of life.
Anyone is encourage to participate, but must work together as a group to design the park.
"This is going to be a win win for the community, for the neighborhoods. We know that vacant lots, vacant properties depress market values. There are safety hazards. And what we can do is turn a lot of these liabilities into assets," said Binghamton's Planning Director, Tarik Abdelazim
The competition will be judged by the city and members of the community.
Construction on winning entries will begin over the winter.
Group registration starts today.
The Symposium will be held September 17th—19th.
Designs are due November, 1, 2010.
Results will be announced December.
Implementation of designs will go forward in Spring 2011.
