Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Taxpayers approve the Johnson City School District's second proposed budget Tuesday night by 110 votes.
The $45.6 million dollar spending plan for the 2010-2011 school year passed by a vote of 1,238 to 1,128.
It includes a tax levy increase of almost 4% and eliminates 26 positions through layoffs and attrition.
Programs like music and athletics will also receive less funding.
But it could have been worse if the budget failed, and the district were forced to go to a contingency, which would have forced additional cuts to staff and programs.
The initial budget proposal, which included a tax levy increase of nearly 6%, was struck down last month.
A proposition to purchase new busses also passed Tuesday nght.
