Norwich Drug Arrest Uncovers Threats to Officers

During the course of an investigation into local drug activity in the City of Norwich, a possible threat to officers was uncovered. While evaluating the threats, the parties involved committed an overt act to follow through with those threats. The following subjects were arrested and charged in connection with this case:

MATHEW C. SMITH, age 27, DOB: (unknown address). Smith has ties to both the Norwich and Elmira areas.

ROBERT W. GALLO JR, age 25,of 22 Sheldon Street, Norwich, NY.

Both Smith and Gallo were arrested for Conspiracy 2nd, a Class “B” felony. They were arraigned this morning at Norwich City Court before Honorable Judge Byrne and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on one million dollars bail each.

Also charged were:

ADAM MARICLE, age 27, of 6 Natoli Avenue, Norwich, NY. Maricle was charged with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd, a Class “B” felony.

CHESTER BLACK JR, age 19, of 609 East Jay Street, Elmira, NY. Black was charged with Criminal Mischief 3rd, a Class “E” felony. Chester damaged property of the City of Norwich Police Department in excess of $250 dollars.

Maricle was arraigned and remanded to CCCF on $100,000 dollars bail, while Black was remanded on $50,000 dollars bail.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Department, the New York State Police and the New York State Division of Parole assisted the City of Norwich Police Department with this investigation.
