Ted & Amy from 93Q to Headline
The Central New York Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Annual Fundraising Gala
Syracuse, NY – March 17, 2011 – Ted & Amy of 93Q will be on hand for an evening of fun and elegance for a worthy cause as the Central New York Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF) holds its Annual Gala, titled “Betting on a Cure” at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, NY on April 8, 2011. All proceeds will go towards funding research to find a cure for type 1 diabetes.
The Diamond & Denim attire dinner will include a silent & live auction and performances by Letizia and the Z Band; a Fund A Cure auction in which donations are made directly to fund diabetes research.
This year’s honorees are Roy Clark and Tom Santurri, franchisees of Dunkin Donuts. William Locke of Adirondack Financial Services will be presented the Living and Giving Award.
Last year’s gala raised over $134,000 for JDRF. This year, event organizers expect to raise over $140,000.
Type 1 diabetes, sometimes referred to as “juvenile” diabetes, is an autoimmune disorder that attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. People living with the disease produce too little or even no insulin at all and so must test their blood throughout the day and administer insulin through injections or a pump connected to the body. While the insulin keeps people with diabetes alive, it is not a cure.
Julia Graziano and Terry Flynn will Chair this year’s gala, and Ted & Amy of 93Q will serve as the event’s Masters of Ceremonies.
Individual tickets are $125.00 each and table sponsorships are available. JDRF is a leader in setting the agenda for diabetes research worldwide, and is the largest charitable funder and advocate of type 1 research. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is a disease which strikes children and adults suddenly and requires multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump. Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation.
Since its founding in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes, JDRF has awarded more than $1.4 billion to diabetes research, including more than $100 million in FY2009.
