Family fun story time with Berenstain Bears LIVE!
at the Schorr Stage!
Johnson City – As part of the Story Time Theatre Series, The Goodwill Theatre presents Matt Murphy’s production of Berenstain Bears LIVE! in Family Matters the Musical on Saturday November 10 at 11a.m. and 2p.m. at the Schorr Stage. The Goodwill Theatre’s 2012-2013 Story Time Theatre Series is sponsored by Senator Libous’ BOOKS Program, in partnership with Morrisville State College, and Bates-Troy Quality Dry Cleaners.
Adapted from the classic children's book series by Stan and Jan Berenstain, The Berenstain Bears LIVE! in Family Matters the Musical brings everyone's favorite bear family to life in a thrilling theatrical experience that kids as well as their parents will treasure for many years to come. As always, Bear Country is not without its complications: Brother Bear's grades are slipping, Sister Bear still has a few things to learn about making new friends, and Papa Bear just can't stop eating junk food. Thankfully, we can always depend on Mama Bear and her loving patience to help set things right. The newest Off-Broadway musical for Mamas, Papas, and Young Cubs, The Berenstain Bears LIVE! will give boys and girls of all ages the chance to fall in love with these characters, just as their parents did when they were growing up.
Stan and Jan Berenstain originally published The Berenstain Bears in 1974 and have gone on to publish over 300 books, create three animated television series, an upcoming feature-length movie, and now a brand new musical! Approved by the authors themselves, The Berenstain Bears LIVE! in Family Matters the Musical is an adaptation of three of The Berenstain Bears’ most beloved books: The Berenstain Bears Learn About Strangers, The Berenstain Bears and Too Much Junk Food, and The Berenstain Bears’ Trouble at School. There will be a study guide provided at the show discussing some of the issues the Berenstain Bears tackle including: talking to strangers, doing your homework and eating too many sweets. Parents and teachers are encouraged to have post-show discussions with the children and cast members of the show.
Matt Murphy is currently producing the Tony Award-Winning musical Memphis on Broadway, and New York’s newest hit family show, The Berenstain Bears LIVE! in Family Matters the Musical. After a 35-week national tour, the critically-acclaimed production of The Berenstain Bears LIVE! has landed in NYC for an extended stay Off-Broadway. Matt recently produced the Broadway productions of Thurgood, starring Laurence Fishburne who was nominated for a Tony Award for his stellar performance, and the new play by Michael Jacobs entitled Impressionism, starring Joan Allen and Jeremy Irons. Matt’s producing debut in New York was the Off-Broadway hit Altar Boyz, which became one of the longest-running Off-Broadway musicals in history during its remarkable 5-year run at New World Stages.
“We expect this show to be highly popular since the Berenstain Bears are so much fun and have such a large following,” says CEO Naima Kradjian. “We purposefully schedule these shows before and after lunch and before afternoon nap time to make it easy for families to attend. We are really looking forward to this show” adds Kradjian.
