“Displaced” is a metaphorical self-portrait depicting the struggle brought upon by being a college student living in a constant state of transition; emotionally, geographically, and professionally.
Conveying emotions through a combination of abstract, representational, and figurative painting styles that depict single figures in open water; the partial abstraction invites the viewer to further relate to the images by applying his or her own personal narrative to each piece.
These images represent the struggle of floating between youth and adulthood, uncertainty and sureness and confront the dichotomy of being free to do anything yet limited by that freedom in a way that is aesthetically pleasing yet haunting.
