Born in 1946, Hayward discovered his love of music early and was playing guitar by age ten. He played in youth clubs and the back rooms of pubs until he formed his own group in the late 50’s. In 1965, he joined “The Wilde Three” toured and recorded two singles with the group before branching out on his own and recording two self-penned solo singles in 1966. After the release of the singles, Hayward sent some of his compositions to Eric Burden of the Animals who passed them on to Mike Pinder of The Moody Blues thus beginning an acclaimed 36-year history.
In addition to being lead guitarist and vocalist for the Moody Blues, Hayward has had a successful solo career plus worked with many other artists. He also has given his time and talent to performing and recording for charitable organizations.
Hayward’s rewards include four ASCAP awards, the BMI Million Plays award, an Ivor Novello Statue as well as numerous other songwriter awards around the world. His song, “Nights in White Satin” is regularly in the all-time lists of favorites, including being in the top ten songs of the Millenium, voted for by the public on BBC TV.
Justin Hayward performs songs from his new album “Spirits of the Western Sky” and Moody Blues favorites in an acoustic setting.
