FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Los Angeles based Binghamton native artist, Nick Kushner, paints using a most personal pigment, his own blood. On Friday April 4, 2014 the closing reception of Kushner’s solo exhibition 'Aceldama' will be held from 6-9pm at JungleScience Gallery and Art Laboratories, 33 Court Street in downtown Binghamton.
The exhibition is a hometown show for Kushner, who has exhibited his works throughout the US and Europe, including three previous solo exhibitions in his current home, Los Angeles. His first exhibition ranked as #4 on LA Weekly's 'Top 10 Events of 2011' where those who purchased his works included rockstar Marilyn Manson.
His exhibition 'Aceldama' is comprised of 17 original paintings all created in the artist’s own blood and has received rave reviews from both local and regional media and has been viewed by hundreds of patrons who have attended the exhibition throughout its duration. Video projections and short films documenting Kushner's art, as well as how he approaches and procures his medium, will also be shown throughout the closing reception.
Kushner likens his work to "Art as modern-day alchemy by the literal insertion within it" and approaches his art from a philosophical and near-spiritual standpoint while depicting themes that range from cathartic to sensual in nature.
'Aceldama' is dedicated to Walter Luckert, the artist’s grandfather who is a Binghamton native and himself an artist who has exhibited throughout Upstate New York, including solo exhibitions in Binghamton and SUNY, during his lifetime.
