There's one teacher at Newark Valley High School who teaches her kids about the real world.

She helps the students set goals and strives to help them reach their dreams .

That's what makes her our Educator of the Week.

Ms. Kathleen Alexander is teaching these Newark Valley high school students how to build a webpage.

Scott Kasmarcik nominated his teacher because she's helping him prepare for the real world.

Giving him motivation to start a small landscaping business.

"When I have a down side she just keeps pushing me along and there's no stopping her," says Kasmarcik.

And that's the way she is with all of her students.

"You need to go beyond your classroom walls. You need to know about their families, their friends, their lifestyle. If you know their interests you can give them direction," says Alexander.

And with that constant support comes a constant smile.

"It's nice to be around her because she's just like a bubble of joy," says Chelsey Ceurter of Newark Valley High School.

"She's like my favorite teacher, I love her," says Amy Hayes of Newark Valley High School.

Ms. Alexander wants her students to know, their future is full of possibilities.

They can accomplish anything if they set their minds to it.

Ms. Alexander has high goals for her students, but she's also shared one of the goals she has for herself.

"The other day Ms. Alexander was telling me how one of her goals as a teacher would be to get the Educator of the Week reward. She deserves it, she works hard, harder than any teacher I know," says Kasmarcik.

"I have to inspire my kids to have goals and that's how they make achievements in life. So I try to set an example by telling them what goals I have in mine," says Alexander.

Now that she's reached her goal, Ms. Alexander hopes her students will be motivated to reach theirs.
