Betsy Locke: Educator Of Week

By Jessica Light

7 students at Oxford High School decided to get together to write a letter nominating their Spanish Teacher.

When we saw the list of names supporting this one teacher we knew she just had to be our Educator of the Week.

Mrs. Betsy Locke teaches Spanish at Oxford.

And her story... is sort of a love story.

"Well the truth is I had a terrible crush on my 7th grade French teacher and he inspired me," says Locke.

So she's passing that inspiration onto her students.

Like these 7 girls who nominated her to be our Educator of the week.

"She's like a big teddy bear basically like you can come and talk to her about stuff. Its cool to have a teacher that you can like count on," says student Malorey Muzzy.

She's not an easy teacher.

She pushes her students to reach their full potential.

But she is a fun teacher.

Getting the kids up out of their seats ...and using music to teach the Spanish language and culture.

Incorporating song into Spanish Class.

Sound familiar? Well that's because it must run in the family.

You may recognize Sarah Palmer from an Educator of the Week story we did back in October.

Like mother like daughter...they understand students need to stay engaged in learning.

"I know I learn a lot better when like I'm moving around like if I'm just sitting in class taking notes I get really bored and unfocused," says student Ashley Nichols.

"yo tengo mucho agulio de mis estudiantes son fantasticos."

Well Mrs. Locke, I happen to know your students have a lot of pride in you...
